Ian is a highly experienced and well-respected sports turf agronomist with over 30 years’ experience in the concept, design, construction and management of both natural and artificial sports surfaces within a global market.
Ian produced the natural turf standards for Rugby and was part of a team involved in the writing of the IRB guidelines for natural turf as well as the pitch quality guidelines for UEFA, FIFA and the GAA.
Ian’s skills range from the development or remodeling of a golf course or sports surface to the provision of agronomic advice for mastering sustainable maintenance and for tournament preparation, being involved in several high-profile competitions across several sporting disciplines. Ian has been involved in the provision of sports surfaces at the highest level including four FIFA World Cups, Rugby World Cup and on behalf of the R&A for The Open Championship and Walker Cup.
Ian has worked with high-profile clients in football, golf, equestrian and GAA, as well as local authorities and smaller private clubs. His skills in design, project management, agronomy and tournament delivery are universal.
